Greater London Enterprise Awards 2021

51 | Greater London Enterprise Awards 2021 Legionella Compliance Services has over 30 years of experience in delivering water hygiene & water treatment services, which gives the company an immense in-depth understanding of both legislative requirements and common problems encountered by businesses. Legionella Compliance Services offers vital support services and practical solutions to clients’ in-house water systems. Its current client base is mainly upon the Higher Education sector (Universities) Services. Geoff O’Grady, General Manager at Legionella, states, “Our team of experts help assess, manage and mitigate risks relating to water hygiene issues, and we train our staff to understand the overall responsibilities regarding water hygiene regulations.” LCS provide a whole suite of services associated with water hygiene and water treatment. Geoff explains, “All water systems are vulnerable to bacterial contamination such as legionella. If left uncontrolled, it can potentially lead to an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease, which carries a significant health risk and potential for long term reputational damage. Under health and safety legislation, businesses are required to ensure people on or around their site are protected.” Geoff continues, “Our experienced technical team has an in-depth understanding of the regulatory and compliance hurdles that companies face in managing their water systems. We take this burden and manage the associated risks ensuring that they comply with legislation, leaving them free to focus on core business.” LCS aims to deliver an exceptional level of service to its clients and has proven to be successful since its foundation in 2016. Geoff explains, “It’s one thing to aim to deliver good customer service, but unless your competitors deliver bad customer service, you need to go further to stand out. Legionella Compliance Services strive to deliver an outstanding service to our clients by putting customers at the centre of our orbit and personalising the experience. Establishing this approach with our team Leading Experts in Water Hygiene & Compliance 2021 members and throughout our customer base has enabled us to grow exponentially across our 4.5 years in business.” The challenges faced by LCS were quite prominent in the early days. The biggest issue was that it was a new business in London that already had a large population of suppliers in its field but lacked a business pedigree. However, Geoff explains, “Our pedigree working in the water treatment business for 30 years plus gave ourselves the breaks we needed to succeed.” Several factors have ultimately driven a trend change over recent years. The first is that clients are not willing to accept poor service levels. The second is that clients see SMEs as a far more attractive business to work with versus larger corporations, as clients can form a strong relationship ensuring both parties deliver on results. The team at LCS is very much a collaborative one. Geoff states, “A healthy and happy team are instrumental to our success, and we aim to keep our staff equipped and motivated to deliver excellent services to our client base. A prime example was that in 2019 we consulted with the team around potentially running a trial four-day working week as we could see possible benefits to the team, business, and environment. As a result, our staff reported feeling less stressed and at risk of burnout and said their health and work-life balance had improved. Overall, it was an ‘overwhelming success and led to the staff moving to a permanent four-day working week which continues to work effectively.” Currently, LCS is working with its laboratory service supplier and a significant client surrounding the testing of wastewater (Sewage) within buildings. As a result, this will help implement a phased strategy for various sections such as to limit and mitigate the spread of pandemics and manage the risk of significant facility shutdown, mitigate both short- and long- term revenue loss and provide confidence to site management teams and occupants as well as geospatial monitoring to pinpoint areas or locations of concern.
