28 | Northern Enterprise Awards 2021 Oct21182 Best Global Gas Sensing Products Manufacturer 2021 What started as a humble addition to the commercial diving sector, has become a much-needed part of businesses from many backgrounds around the world. We take a closer look at how the team from Analox have been able to achieve this, and what steps were taken to ensure this incredible business success in SME News’ Northern Enterprise Awards 2021. Founded 40 years ago in 1981, it’s no wonder that the Analox of today is a very different creation to what it once was. While the industries it serves and the technologies used have transformed forever, the principles of saving lives, putting customers first and partnering with the brightest and best to create stunning solutions remains the same. For those who are searching for critical gas detection and analytical products, Analox is still the name to beat. The team’s products were originally designed for use in the commercial diving industry, but in-depth research revealed a demand for the team’s services in a variety of different markets. Now used in sectors including the military, space exploration, hospitality, education and both recreational and commercial diving, it’s easy to see how the business has been able to broaden its scope, while continuing to offer the same high standards of success. The products developed by Analox have been at the heart of many of the world’s leading innovations, with the team working diligently to provide lifesaving gas monitoring solutions that are currently in use deep in the ocean onboard submarines, on the ocean’s surface on a large number of Naval vessels and even in space. During a national oxygen crisis and carbon dioxide shortages, this team has been on hand and able to offer the right support to ensure accurate decisions were made. The benefit of working with this team comes not purely from their incredible line of products, but from the wealth of expertise that stands behind them. Safety is not just about technological innovations, but about people. Nowhere has this been clearer than over the last year. Every business has been forced to change to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Naturally, the key to understanding this coronavirus has been to study it in detail, and the team were involved in ensuring that effective CO2 monitoring in schools and public buildings was possible. During unprecedented times, the Analox team was responsible for numerous pioneering products. The team were also called upon to provide oxygen monitors to hospitals and carbon dioxide monitors to those who work around dry ice that preserved the vaccine during transport. Having spent much of the business’ lifetime working for commercial companies that needed specialised support, it was a change for many to be working for the public good. This meant working on a scale that the team has never had the opportunity to do before, and the results have proven to be something they can be proud of. Needless to say, there was a strong demand within the company to make all the difference possible to meet the new challenges being met by the world. Being based in the North of England has proven to be the right decision for this internationally renowned company, and it is a region that is constantly benefitting from new investment by the government. The most clear example of this is Teesside Airport, which has improved transport links to other parts of Europe and the rest of the world. This makes it the perfect meeting place for our local and international partners. Analox was the proud host of the SAMAP (Submarine Air Monitoring and Air Purification) symposium in Newcastle and an open day at Analox head office in Stokesley in 2019, offering a chance to explore the industry to customers and partners from all over the world. The team’s northern roots gave them a unique non-London perspective that resulted in a great turn out. As well as having benefits for clients, working in the north means having access to incredible local talent. As transport links improve across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool, the chance to work with some of the brightest of the new generations becomes ever more possible. During the pandemic, the team have been proud to adapt to a hybrid work system, but there are still staff required to work from the head office in Stokesley. A combination of the two approaches has ensured that manufacturing, research and development and operations continue to operate as smoothly as possible for their valued customers. Looking ahead, the team are working hard to meet the demands of their clients, while matching the current concerns of the industry. Currently, the While the industries it serves and the technologies used have transformed forever, the principles of saving lives, putting customers first and partnering with the brightest and best to create stunning solutions remains the same.
