SME NEWS / Q1 2019 7 the volume of freight we handled rose by 7%. The growth is due in part to new accounts - very often via referrals from existing customers or via word of mouth. It is also due to France Line introducing an abnormal and out of gauge service to complement its services for standard commercial and industrial cargo. Due to the effectiveness and reliability of our European services and our strong customer service, we our increasingly been called upon by our customers to help them with shipments of all kinds and consignments to all kind of destinations, and we are of course more than happy to help. For the 1st 6 months of our current financial year, we have continued to show growth and performed well. We are pleased with our figures as the activity in our industry has been more challenging; there has been a slowdown in trading between the UK and continental Europe due to the continued uncertainty over the outcome of the Brexit negotiations. We have also been affected by the volatility of the exchange rate between the gbp and the euros linked to Brexit, as well as consistently raising fuel prices over the past few months. We remain positive and upbeat for the future. We are in challenging times, with threats from different quarters, but we will make whatever changes are needed to adapt and carry on being successful.
