32 | Q1 2022 Jan22328 Make A Swift Recovery Founded in 2009, BW Legal has seen continued growth year on year due to the expertise it shows in the debt recovery industry. As an experienced and trusted company for debt collection and litigation, it is focused on delivering market leading recovery solutions in an ethical and fair manner. We find out more from Brian Gibson in the wake of the firm winning Best Independent Debt Recovery Law Firm 2022 – United Kingdom. As the UK’s largest independent debt recovery law firm, BW Legal offers a tailored one stop solution for collection of early arrears through to litigation. It is a specialist, both in its knowledge and capabilities, and is focused on delivering market leading recovery solutions in an ethical and fair manner. “Being dual regulated this provides assurances, to both our clients and customers that the services we offer are carried out in line with the principles set by both the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the FCA within our debt administration and debt-collecting permissions,” explains Head of Business Development, Brian Gibson. “We are recognised within the industry for our compliance and fairness, whilst achieving optimum results and brand protection for our clients.” As an agile practice with a focus on exceeding client expectations, BW Legal is equipped to handle high volumes of instructions with a rapid turnaround accompanied with the highest standards of quality. The firm carries out the capabilities of a volume Debt Collection Agency but, with the additional ability to proceed with legal services, this provides an unequalled service to clients. “We differ from most firms in that we will take time to understand the business needs of our clients and implement procedures, technology and bespoke pricing structures to best facilitate our client’s requirements,” Brian elaborates. “We are non-sector specific and we are able to guide clients and make the necessary recommendations for the most effective means of recovery in both B2C and B2B recoveries at pre-legal, legal and enforcement stages. Clients also get access to the secure BW Legal Client Gateway platform which provides the ability to handle all levels of instruction, see results, extract reports, legal documents, edit and sign witness statements, track hearings, see results, report on costs, agree or reject admissions, submit their own offers and withdraw from hearings, all in a convenient online portal. When it comes to internal culture, Brian tells us that staff are at the very centre of BW Legal’s business and there is a huge focus on upskilling. In fact, a whopping 73% of the firm’s management team have been promoted from within the business and Investors in People recognised the efforts that BW Legal has gone to and awarded it with Gold standard. By providing bespoke induction training, apprenticeships and e-learning courses to all, BW Legal provides colleagues with the resources to succeed from day one and has built a culture that is friendly, engaging and supportive. “We believe in creating a workplace that inspires collaboration and innovation through diversity and inclusion. By doing so, we aim to build a sense of belonging for everyone who works here as well as rewarding individual commitment and success of all our colleagues.” Covid-19 certainly had an impact on every person and every business and BW Legal was no exception. Brian tells us that the firm actively embraced the challenge and was fortunate to have a site large enough to allow socially distanced working practices and keep the business open - keeping colleagues safe, productive, engaged and, most importantly, employed. “At the start of the pandemic, we turned to science very quickly and ensured that we had every touch point and furniture at our site coated with an antimicrobial coating, along with door handle covers and installing air sterilisers and bio zones throughout the site,” Brian continues. “We were really proud to turn the BW Legal office (which was already impeccably cleaned and maintained pre-pandemic) into amongst the cleanest and most sterile in Leeds!” To further facilitate a safe and productive working environment, colleagues shift times were reduced and organised on a rota basis to minimise foot fall in the business. Despite the reduced working hours, colleagues’ pay was not impacted and BW Legal took the success of this further and a six-hour working day is now commonplace across the business to support a true work-life balance for colleagues. “We were quick to adapt to modify all communication with customers, making every effort to support them throughout this difficult period. We utilised our enriched data to offer customers pre-approved discounts together affordable payment arrangements, just being here to take calls and listen and assist customers was important us. “We found that Covid-19 actually united us a business and we have grown to value each other more and have found new ways to engage and keep morale high.” Recently, BW Legal was recognised by SME News as the Best Independent Debt Recovery Law Firm 2022 – United Kingdom and now the future paints a bright and exciting future for the company. For 2022 and beyond, it will continue its progressive forward thinking and technology lead approach together with focussing on high colleague engagement with an emphasis on upskilling colleagues to be the best they can be to ensure the company continues to blaze a trail both internally and externally.
