SME News Q4 2018

SME NEWS / Q4 2018 37 , The teamat WilliamScott Consulting write about the firm’s ethos, operations and culture on the back of their well-deserved success in the 2018 SMEMidlands Enterprise Awards. Strong culture: Cornerstone of a Businesses’ Success It’s not in our handbook or mission statement but from day one we have intentionally shaped our culture, pruning it along the way. Like the underground network of an old Californian Redwood, our roots intertwine which results in tremendous strength and unity. It’s what makes William Scott Consulting unique. Our employees tell us our culture is built on togetherness, authenticity, trust, fairness, support and respect, without losing sight of high standards and performance. It’s based on the unwritten rules which are considered gospel. Imagine us with a thick protective bark, just like the Redwood, we have the ability to withstand adversity whilst building our resilience and embracing the challenges that lie ahead. Like new seedlings from a Redwood that take root after a fire, we too develop and grow; welcoming change and adapting to our new climate. We start the day with Mindfulness, no we’re not trying to revive sixties California but just 10 minutes a day heightens our ability to focus and enhances our creative juices. We’re not afraid of hard work but we also understand the importance of taking time out too. Our wellbeing is paramount, so we’ve come up with lots of initiatives to keep us healthy in body and mind. We encourage people to play to their strengths rather than pushing them to be something they’re not. We also believe behaviours and performance are a direct result of an individual’s emotional capital; that’s why Emotional Intelligence is at the heart of who we are and what we do. Our approach is simple, set the precedent for people to grow and unite, which over time, will unleash an abundance of energy towards a shared purpose; this is what helps us thrive. We encourage experimentation too; people are not robots, we’re agile and innovative and want people to be creative without fear of failure. We are always researching the latest technology and trends, finding solutions to help us improve how we do business. We might have a wealth of knowledge under our belt, but our true expertise lies in people. It’s a bit like the Dog Trust advert: ‘bad owner = bad dog, good owner = good dog’. We invest in our people and they are happy, engaged, resilient and in turn deliver a memorable experience for those who work with us. We believe all of these ingredients create the recipe for our success. An interview with Scott Beadle, Founder & Managing Partner of William Scott Consulting tells us more… Why do you exist? Simply put, we exist to help people (including our own) and businesses flourish to reach their full potential. Have you just appeared? No, we’ve been around for a few years now and we feel it’s about time we shared ourselves a bit more with the world. Who are you? We’re an independent, research- driven Executive Search and Leadership Consulting firm, partnering with businesses to implement tailored Executive Search strategies. We also provide Leadership Development solutions to support the growth and development of individual leaders and their teams. Who do you support? We partner with Start-Ups, SMEs, Blue Chip and FTSE listed companies across a multitude of sectors; Manufacturing & Engineering, Technology & Innovation, Financial Services & Fintech, Charity & Not-for-Profit, Building & Construction and VC & PE. We do this across the UK & MID18036 Europe based from our Midlands HQ. Where did it all begin? We took a slightly different approach to building an Executive Search and Leadership Consulting firm - we went into an international corporate environment and dedicated over a year to researching first-hand the challenges faced from a strategic resourcing perspective. We then re-engineered those challenges and developed our business model based on actual needs, not what we think an organisation may want. What next? Well, we’re in the process of planting an office just outside London to further enhance our UK presence. We’re also looking into a couple of options to further expand across the UK and internationally too. Want to know more?
