Q4 2020

28 | Q4 2020 Sep201074 Building Sustainable Change Datod – Welsh for “unravel” – is a management consultancy based in the innovation hub at Tec Marina, Penarth, South Wales. Providing a vast range of services from continuous improvement to change management and strategy planning, in an ever-changing and unclear world, we took a closer look at how the firm helps organisations become more effective, efficient and resilient in these uncertain times. Specialising in unravelling the unneeded complexity in organisations, Datod not only provides traditional project and risk management consultancy, they also incorporate cutting edge methodology that complements traditional approaches to organisational development. With its moto of “Building Sustainable Change“, we asked Datod founder and Managing Director, Dr Matthew Wictome what was the driving force behind setting up Datod in 2019. “Principally it was the realisation that small to medium organisations are not getting the support they deserve from the larger consultancies. Certainly not with practical advice that can be implemented swiftly and helps them at reasonable cost. Datod is very hands-on. We have a long-term client in Barcelona who we’ve worked with very closely over the past year, not only offering advice to make their processes simpler, but also helping them build and document better systems from scratch and delivering training and development. “At Datod, we get to know our clients really well and they get to trust us. In addition, was the acceptance that some of the traditional improvement methodologies sold to organisations fail and are not sustained, for a range of reasons. Offering a different approach, we understand that each business is different. As such, our goal is to leverage the deep understanding you have of your organisation to identify the best solution for you, one that will be last.” Datod’s strength is the ability to use a number of approaches to provide the most appropriate solution. Going into further detail, Matthew informs us of how Datod is able to differentiate themselves from their competitors in such a dynamic industry. “Research supports that over 70% of improvement programs fail. This is often due to the methodology having a blinkered view of organisations, seeing them as machines with inputs that can be controlled, and outputs measured. In practice the world isn’t like that and businesses are complex organic environments that are continually changing, now more so. We understand this and are able to employ some of the more different approaches that understand this, with greater success.” Datod offer a range of options for clients, from one to one support over an extended period to a growing library of training packages that clients can download and start their improvement journey at limited cost, as Matthew explains. “In today’s world, all businesses are needing to change, ours included, but there is nothing stopping you starting that improvement today. All you need is the support and some help. Nothing satisfies me more than leaving a client in a stronger, more resilient position than when we first met them.” Datod cut its teeth in the highly regulated industry of medical devices specialising in quality system improvements, where even simple changes can be onerous. With over 30 years practical experience, Matthew reflects on his company’s culture and how he ensures that the Datod remains ahead of the curve, especially in an everchanging industry. “The key is investing in the long term and investing in quality of what we deliver. Growth will come if you have a good product. Again, it’s all about building sustainable change. Change has to be built, same as a house, foundations have to set down, bricks laid and there are no quick fixes generally. In addition to this, the key is to be a learning organisation. We all need to learn and improve. It’s not the survival of the fittest, but the survival of the most adaptable. Like all business, we have had to adapt how we deliver value, adjust how we can do things remotely, be it training or direct client support.” Looking ahead to what the future holds for the firm, Matthew does not reveal any plans or projects in the pipeline for Datod, but he does reveal one goal the team hope to achieve going forward. “Given how 2020 has gone tragically for businesses and individuals alike, I have given up making predications for 2021. However, I do know that if we can help businesses grow stronger or even just survive the challenges ahead, then we will be more than happy.” Contact: matt.wictome@datod-consulting.co.uk Company: Datod Consulting Ltd Web Address: www.datod-consulting.co.uk
