105 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2021 In the wake of winning the well-deserved accolade of Best Vintage Furniture Store in London, we speak to owner, Rebecca Loughran, to find out what it is that makes The Hub so unique. Curated furniture boutique, The Hub, specialises in vintage and antique wares and is based in the fashionable Portobello Road area of London. Working with clients across the region, the firm’s unique approach to interior design aims to ensure that all of its customers’ home-styling dreams can be realised and brought to life by literally breathing new life into existing items. Owned and run by Founder, Rebecca Loughran, The Hub is tasked with ‘discovering’ unique and unusual items of furniture and homewares for clients. There is even a ‘watch list’ which is a free service for people to sign up to whereby clients who are looking for specific items can detail exactly what it is they are after, so Rebecca and her team can keep their eyes open for that special and sought-after piece. The shop and workshop, which is a veritable Aladdin’s Cave of wonderful items just waiting to be discovered, houses sample books for high-end upholstery fabrics which clients can select from to make their chosen items come to life. Rebecca herself is CDM trained and offers all design and all forms of management services, with visuals, sampling, sourcing and trade buying all being part of the package provided. Rebecca regularly advises her clients on all decorative items, colours, and textures to make sure that their perfect pieces fit seamlessly into their existing surroundings. Rebecca tells us more about her passion for older furniture and what it is that makes it so magical. “An antique (something over 100 years old) or vintage (20 years plus) has a quality that is rare in new products,” she explains. “A piece that has been around for generations, deserves consideration and being unique requires thought. That does not mean it should be tatty or in disrepair - the appreciation is in bringing it back to life to face a new glory and bring new happiness and of course be practical and comfortable as well.” The Hub’s keen focus on sustainability has enabled the firm to distinguish itself from some of its closest competitors. There is so much joy in a piece that has been made by craftsmen with quality materials.” In addition, the firm operates a rental service for vintage and antique items which allows clients to sell and rent out their homes. This is often best suited to developers, homeowners and tenants who can maximise their property’s potential.
