Covering an area of more than 12-acres, the nursery is stocked with a wide range of plants, including ornamental and fruit trees, shrubs, roses, climbers, soft fruit, alpines and perennials, many of which are grown on site by the family. From early spring, the nursery also carries a vast quality of fuchsias, geraniums, hanging baskets and bedding plants. But that’s not all for there also lies a wealth of gardening goods, tools and equipment to ensure that everything needed is on hand for every discerning gardener, from the very experienced to the keen beginner! There’s even a range of landscaping items, fencing and aggregate for pathways and patios, plus the company operates a delivery service in and around the area for heavy duty items. The garden centre may have been going for 25 years, but the original site has a much longer history having been originally set up as James’s Stores in 1948 by the parents of the current owner and specialising in selling ex-army surplus from old Nissen huts on a disused World War II army base. As the business grew, the goods sold progressed to tools, furniture, car parts, clothing and, subsequently, haberdashery. Some years later, plants arrived on the scene and the site evolved from Nissen huts to green houses. Today the business is still owned and run by the same family. It is thanks to this long-standing stellar reputation, coupled with excellent customer service and a wide range of products, that has earned Rocky Mountain Nursery the prestigious title of Garden Centre of the Year – Somerset in the Southern Enterprise Awards 2021.
