Starting out on his own as a sole employee of the company he was 100% shareholder of, Patrick began building what would become an award-winning firm of excellence. Twelve years on from first founding the business, and Mealey Electrical Contractors is home to more than twenty employees, as well as additional labour as and when required. Patrick has been joined by office managers, electrical contracts managers, estimators, supervisors, electrical engineers, labourers, apprentices, and school leavers over the years, and has given every single employee the chance to shine. Over the years, Mealey Electrical Contractors has continued to expand. What began by starting initially with small contracts and domestic work, quickly grew to securing big contracts for blue chip companies, local authorities, the NHS, utility companies, and various education establishments. Patrick has made his company into a powerhouse for growth and market excellence across Leicestershire and the wider Midlands areas. Today, Mealey Electrical Contractors offers a complete electrical service from conception right through to design, installation, maintenance, and testing. The firm has all systems covered, including fire, security, BMS control, and structured wiring. The project presented huge challenges due to the large amount of specialist knowledge required and the outside contractors that needed to be co-ordinated and controlled in a live environment. Another example was work completed at The London Clinic, which is a busy and highly pressurised work environment that needed to continue working at full capacity during the time that Mealey Electrical Contractors was onsite. Ensuring that the client can rest assured is a key part of the service that Mealey Electrical Contractors provides, and so the firm also has a strong commitment to staff training, development, and support. Patrick, and the entire leadership team at the firm, believe that retaining and development are key to future growth and progress. A high percentage of the fully qualified electricians have risen through the ranks at the firm, progressing from apprentice to fully qualified engineers. The firm also provides additional workshops to enhance the training, resulting in trainees achieving various awards such as the JTL Apprentice of the Year, and the National Skills Award. In order to keep on top of these, Patrick and all his employees stay up to date with continual professional development including health and safety training, toolbox talks, and training by external professional bodies. Mealey Electrical Contractors employs the services of an external health and safety advisor to ensure that it is kept abreast of current and future legislation and regulatory changes in the health and safety industry.
