Here, she tells us more about how the company differentiates itself from competitors. “We provide a service specific to neurological conditions only,” she begins. “This gives us a wider range of experience specific to these conditions. Also our at-home service is provided at time which suit the patient as many clients with neurological injuries or conditions find it difficult to attend appointments.” This became especially beneficial during times of shielding during the pandemic, where people were advised to not leave the house. They would instead have therapists they knew and trusted coming to their home in a controlled environment. The firm is also committed to minimising waste, using local and ethically oriented suppliers and partners and using electrically powered vehicles and public transport as a priority. All training is provided in house, although the company is soon to open a training school to help with the demand from other massage therapists wishing to learn. Gemma firmly believes that, when recruiting, it is important that therapists have empathy and willingness to learn, as well as the ability to adapt to each patient and their individual needs. Neuro Massage offers training to other practitioners who want to enter the sector. The training includes therapeutic techniques as well as commercial and business models. As the only at-home neurologically specialised massage service, Neuro Massage has a deep knowledge and experience of treating neurological injuries and conditions. Since launching the business demand has grown steadily and accelerated as the NHS could no longer offer the care patients needed. This is a trend that looks set to continue under the current healthcare system’s operating model. May22238 Most Pioneering Massage Services Enterprise 2022 “A report by neuro numbers in England shows 1 in 6 people have a neurological condition, that’s 16.5 neurological cases,” Gemma elaborates. “In 2019 they showed there was a 21% increase with people being admitted to hospital with neurological conditions. This number continues to grow, however due to Covid-19, many statistics like this haven’t been calculated in the past two years.” One example where Neuro Massage has successfully helped patients after a stroke. Typically, patients are given six weeks of physiotherapy from the NHS and, if there is no improvement, then they are discharged. Neuro massage is extremely beneficial in this situation as pain, and spasms, muscle tone, and general wellbeing can be greatly improved. “Unfortunately, most neurological conditions and injuries are not curable, so the focus is around improving quality of life in any possible way. For example spinal cord injuries, MS and Motor neurone disease are all incurable.
