CEO of the Year Awards 2023

influence and guided Caroline throughout her ventures, teaching her to value people and show great loyalty and service to those who, in turn, showed equal appreciation to the business. For Caroline, “people are the bedrock of any business and I think we have the best staff, motivated and passionate about what they do, who work together to achieve a common goal. Finding and retaining good people is part of our recipe for success.” With its staff being fundamental to the cause, the culture fostered within the company is friendly, collaborative, and open, with teamwork and inter-departmental communication being highly encouraged. Much like how every member of the team is treated on an equal playing field, the same ethos is embodied in the business’ approach to its multitude of customers, whether they be family- owned independent wholesalers or huge multi-nationals, everyone is approached in the same way. The defining elements of this service include excellent customer relations, fantastic quality, and unrivalled value for money. Building long-term partnerships is another priority for Caroline and the team, whose experience and knowledge of the market makes them terrific partners, something that is further underpinned by a high level of compliance and certification from third parties. Partnerships are proving to be more important now than ever before in such a diverse and malleable business landscape. Based on what Caroline refers to as, “rafts of change in recent years”, stemming from the seemingly endless stream of new legislation and taxation that everyone working in the industry must overcome, the company’s day-to-day operations are set to involve the implementation of a cradle to grave cycle evaluation. As Caroline explains, this entails, “looking at materials, production methods, transportation, [and] end of life options to assess what is truly environmentally beneficial. Rather than jumping on one element or one material without considering the whole product lifecycle.” A holistic approach such as this is needed in ultimately making a difference for future generations, managing environmental impacts, reducing the unpredictability of our climate, and ensuring that inhabitants of our planet can thrive for years to come. Through positive messages such as these, eGreen is largely seeking to move away from the negative discourses that are so prolific across the media, instead focusing on the positive opportunities that come from the cycles we go through. When many of the plastic products that the company used to sell were banned, it would have been easy to give up, but through resilience, passion, and determination, new means were found that have allowed the business to continually prosper. The company’s dedication to its craft is certainly not going unnoticed, with HRH King Charles III himself having selected eGreen’s aforementioned revolutionary self-destructing cups to be a part of his Terra Carta brand, something that was first unveiled to the public in Glasgow at COP26. Others have too begun to take notice, particularly regarding eGreen’s custom printed glassware, which today boasts clients such as Twickenham stadium, M&S Bank Arena Liverpool and the Principality Stadium, Wales. Many of eGreen’s products also sport the famous FSC tick-tree logo, further highlighting a commitment to the environment. FSC serves as the world’s most trusted sustainable forest management solution, with its logo gracing products and packaging across the world. A passion for the environment has always been integral for the business, serving as one of its key values, but in recent years it has really emerged as a frontrunner, and it continues to shape both the future of the business and the wider market. As Caroline looks ahead to the rest of 2024 and beyond, she shares that the company is on the lookout for more recyclers to work with, so that customers can recycle their wate even easier. In summary, she tells us, “we are working to boost the profitability of the business so that we can invest in more marketing support for our customers, [and] in research and development to bring on new products, better suited to the environmental metrics that we need to meet for the future.” eGreen International Limited has come a long way in the past several decades, but its pledge to make only the best in reusable, recyclable products has elevated it to that next level, and its offerings today comprise some of the finest wooden products, food/drink accessories, paper drinking straws, recyclable and reusable drinkware, and custom products that the market has to offer. It is our privilege to celebrate a company, and a CEO, with such honourable intentions and we wish Caroline Wiggins the best of luck for the year ahead. Already on to the third generation of groundbreaking entrepreneurs, one can only guess the new heights that the company will scale as it continues to pioneer for generations yet to come.
