Q2 2021

18 | Q2 2021 Sep20043 Making Work Easy People Group is a family-owned and operated business with a long history of providing compliant payroll services to recruitment agencies and their contractors. Jason Medcalf tells us more about the firm’s dedication to supporting agencies and contracting professionals. Based in Wiltshire, People Group provides a range of payroll, compliance and workforce management services to recruitment agencies of all sizes. People Pay includes a range of fully compliant payroll options, ensuring workers are paid on time, every time and in the right way. People Engage is the company’s workforce management software and contractor app, designed to make work easy for everyone. And People Compliance, its compliance software, increases business efficiencies and significantly reduces time to hire. Quite simply, the People Group mission is to make work easy, fulfilling and productive for everyone. “We achieve this by optimising the processes that underpin work,” explains Jason Medcalf, the Group’s Sales Director. “So often ignored and considered an admin hassle, processes like payroll and compliance haven’t moved on. At People Group, we’re applying new thinking and technology to completely reinvent them.” The company was created by Chief Executive Officer, Terry Hillier, back in 2007 under the name Recruitment and Contractor Services and has since grown the business to be a shining light of compliant payroll within the industry, picking up a number of business awards along the way, including being the 2020 Winner of the Talent Tech Stars Compliance Solution of the Year Award. The business rebranded 10 years later in 2017 in order to branch out with a fresh new look. That’s when People Group was formed. Today, the Group’s unique selling point stems from its deep understanding of the wider legislative and sector landscapes in order to keep clients safe whilst saving them both time and money through the efficiencies that its services provide. “By working in partnership with our clients, sharing our industry knowledge and expertise and providing a range of solutions, we make recommendations that best serve their circumstances and priorities,” Jason highlights. When it comes to internal culture, the team at People Group can be likened to a close-knit family, with both individuals and departments communicating openly and regularly to ensure the highest levels of service for all clients. Regular training and events also help to maintain and improve knowledge and the friendly and hardworking atmosphere created by CEO, Terry, enables success. For payroll providers working within the recruitment sector the recent Covid-19 pandemic has provided some significant challenges, such as navigating the CJRS/Furlough scheme throughout 2020 and responding to updated government guidance and paying thousands of contractors through the scheme. But for People Group, the future remains bright. “We’re currently working on some large national projects which we hope to see implemented in 2021,” Jason explains. “In the meantime, we will continue to promote our award-winning compliance software and our workforce management solution to complement our payroll services.”
