Today, Chizzy Chukwukere is proud of the learning facility she has built which is geared towards ensuring each and every child is school-ready. We speak to Chizzy and find out more. Zippy’s Day Nursery (Zippy’s), based in Greenwich, was established more than 10 years ago and prides itself on nurturing confident children and teaching them to learn, through play, to get them ready for school. It all started when Founder, Chizzy Chukwukere’s little boy started school. His teacher contacted Chizzy to ask if he had ever attended nursery because she had noticed that he couldn’t hold a pen. Chizzy was shocked as her son had attended nursery for two tears and yet it appeared that he was not yet ready for school. This heart-breaking revelation made Chizzy realise that, as a parent, she didn’t know exactly what was expected of a child when they started school. Tasks such as being able to write their own name, put their coat on, sit down to eat on their own, and concentrate during story time are a few basic skills which every child of school age should possess. This realisation hit Chizzy hard, and it fired a passion within her, making her want to help other children and parents to never have to go through this same experience ever again. After two years of dedication and research, finding the perfect location and assembling the ideal team, Zippy’s Day Nursery was born! “Since then, we’ve cared for more than 1,500 children at our nursery on Greenwich High Road,” explains Chizzy. “Our expertise is learning through play, focusing on seven key learning areas to give each and every child the foundations they need to excel and be happy before they start school.” Chizzy’s hand-picked, fully qualified nursery team come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and they are constantly training and developing to provide the highest level of education and care for each and every child. The children are given the space and independence to play and develop in each Sep21700 of Zippy’s four rooms, all of which are fullyequipped to support the children’s welfare, growth, and confidence as they learn about the world around them. They are also provided with healthy, nutritious food which is freshly made in Zippy’s kitchen by the experienced in-house chef. Catering to all dietary requirements, the kitchen holds a five-star EHO rating for food safety and hygiene, which has been achieved consistently year after year. “We love what we do, and our nursery is so much more than just coming, playing and going home again,” Chizzy elaborates. “Above all else, we truly care. When you walk into the building, you’ll feel the happiness and loving energy! We’re not a chain nursery and every single child in our care is treated as the special, unique individual that they are.” As for Zippy’s parents, they all get access to a specially-designed app, so even when they’re at work, parents can see what their little ones are up to, with pictures of their lunch and updates of all the activities they’ve enjoyed! “For the parents, we’re always here to support you too. Our door is always open for any questions you might have and honest conversations that might be needed. It’s no surprise to hear that Zippy’s was recently recognised for its hard work by being given the respected title of Best Family-Run Day Care Services 2021 at this year’s Greater London Enterprise Awards, hosted by SME News.
