Scottish Enterprise Awards 2021

23 | Scottish Enterprise Awards 2021 Formed in 2007, RB Safety Consultants is a UK limited company providing engineering, safety and risk management services to a number of highly regulated sectors. We find out more about the industry, and the organisation, as we speak to David Graham. Operating across defence, energy and infrastructure, RB Safety Consultant’s (RB Safety) employees have extensive experience in high hazard industries, providing innovative and robust solutions for the safe and effective delivery of customer requirements. With its capabilities being built on considerable experience developed in the maritime sectors, RB Safety Consultants provides support across four key functions: project and programme management; safety and engineering; engineering supportability; and risk, resilience and cyber security. “Our aim is to provide value for money services to our clients to deliver major projects to time and cost; many of these projects are public funded and part of a national endeavour for the maintenance of key sovereign capabilities in the UK,” explains David Graham, the firm’s Managing Director. “Our core values include being passionate about what we do, our eagerness to take on difficult challenges, our openness and respect for other, accountability for our actions, enjoyment in the workplace and finally our commitment to our customers.” David believes that RB Safety’s unique selling point is its ability to bring experience, often developed in arduous, demanding situations, to break down seemingly intractable problems to deliver a robust, logical outcome to a project. “The 2000 plus man years developed in the maritime and nuclear domains by our 67 staff are what truly sets us apart from our competition; delivery of cogent outcomes is key to keep solutions simple and workable while ensuring individual, product and public safety remains at the heart of all that we do.” The team at RB Safety has a number of core skills that have been developed through successful careers in the Armed Forces and the internal culture sees all employees as a family extension of these military careers. David himself joined RB Safety after a highly successful 27 years in the Royal Navy where he gained a significant level of operational experience as well as working in the policy, programmes and plans divisions of the MOD and the Royal Navy. This included development of the long-term strategy for the sustainment of the UK sovereign capability to deliver nuclear powered submarines that was the forerunner of the propulsion solution now being delivered for the Successor SSBN, HMS Dreadnought and class. Due to its aspirations to be the independent consultancy of choice and look to continue to grow with an aim of doubling in size in the next five years, RB Safety is keen to recruit less experienced members and develop them within the team through support to professional development as engineers, application of core project management skills and generation of further experience in complex programme delivery. “We look for ambitious, intelligent people,” enthuses David. “Those who have a proven track record in defence, nuclear, oil and gas or rail but we also want to develop new talent ourselves to take us from strength-to-strength.” There’s no doubt that the demands of Covid-19 have brought changes to the way RB Safety does business, although David feels that the best outcomes continue to be achieved through face-to-face contact where brain storming, team building and development of the work ethic has served the organisation and its clients best in order to achieve collective goals. However the future looks bright. To begin with, RB Safety was recently recognised for its dedication with the prestigious accolade of Best High Hazard SME Consultancy 2021 in the Scottish Enterprise Awards and, secondly, and perhaps most importantly, serious growth is on the horizon. “We have recently refreshed our strategic targets for next year and the next five years in terms of growth, new markets, resilience and support to our team,” David comments. “This year has been our most successful to date in all areas where we would measure performance and we have six new client areas that we will develop in 2022 with a view to 30% growth in staff and revenue.” Contact Details Contact: David Graham Company: RB Safety Consultants Ltd Web Address: www.rbsafetyconsultants.com Oct21835 Best High Hazard SME Consultancy 2021 RB Safety Consultants Ltd
