Southern Enterprise Awards 2022

30 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2022 Best Sustainable Tech Company 2022 Dynamon develops data analytics software tools to increase the efficiency of transportation in order to reduce costs and fuel consumption across the globe. It all stemmed from company Founder, Dr Angus Webb, working with team GB to develop bespoke measurement and analytics methods to help improve decisionmaking around equipment choice and training methods. This work led to the success of Team GB during London 2012 and the concept for Dynamon was born. Dynamon has a suite of software tools specifically designed to help commercial fleets identify the optimum electric-vehicles and charging infrastructure for their specific fleet operations. One such tool is their flag-ship product ZERO. Sustainability is a significant challenge facing the commercial transport industry because the cost and feasibility of rapidly evolving fleet technology is highly complex. ZERO solves this challenge by enabling zero-emission fleet and infrastructure solutions to be accurately simulated in a virtual environment. The optimum solution for each fleet operation can be identified more reliably before fleets or infrastructure providers commit to significant investments. Once investments have been made, ZERO can monitor zero-emission fleet and infrastructure solutions to ensure their performance is meeting expectations and identify further optimisation opportunities. Fleets need to purchase electric vehicles (EVs) for their operations that are both feasible and cost effective. These factors are mostly impacted by some complexities such as EV battery size, charging requirements, EV specifications and electricity demands. Our game changing software ZERO is ticking all the boxes and enabling fleets to transition effectively to electric vehicles given cost and the complexities to consider. Another intuitive and advanced software tool Dynamon has devised is Tyre Analytics and in July 2018, the firm carried out a major trial with ASDA demonstrating the importance of tyre choice and validating the accuracy of its analytics approach. Interesting feedback from Asda after using the tool “Working with Dynamon’s Tyre Analytics produced findings that we felt at the time were very interesting… We had not expected our tyre choice to have such a significant impact on fuel costs. Within the process of establishing how to reduce fuel consumption, we considered a wide range of contributing factors. It became apparent that tyres could be a significant area of saving for us. The controlled trials that we carried out with Dynamon, on ASDA trucks, calculated the degree of saving possible by changing our tyre policy. Moving forwards, after working with Dynamon, we are reviewing our tyre policy based on their scientific findings and look forward to proving a different tyre choice can create significant benefit.” (Sean Clinton-Senior Manager, 2018). Rolling resistance has an impact on fuel consumption and Dynamon has created a way to quantify the cost saving from improved tyre choice specific to a company’s vehicle type, as well as to monitor the savings made as they happen. Then there is Aero Analytics - a data analytics tool that helps logistics companies purchase aerodynamics solutions that significantly reduce fleet operational cost and environmental impact. Aero Analytics enables logistics companies to investigate various aerodynamics devices appropriate to their vehicles and to accurately quantify the potential fuel cost savings and ROI that these devices provide specific to their fleet operation. This intuitive tool is equipped with a predictive engine, making accurate real-world fuel consumption predictions, and performing fuel saving calculations per vehicle to analyse alternative hardware choices. Finally, there is Precision Trial Analytics which performs accurate trials to find the optimum vehicle hardware for its unique operation. As most trials do not accurately measure vehicle hardware performance, due to either significant day-to-day operational differences or errors introduced by bad vehicle selection, the knock-on effect is that inaccurate trials produce misleading conclusions about vehicle hardware performance, which then lead to misguided purchasing decisions. Failed trials waste precious time and resources, and the resulting poor purchasing increases fleet operational costs (or TCO). Dynamon developed Precision Trial Analytics to help logistics companies perform successful and accurate vehicle hardware trials and to enable them to identify the optimum vehicle hardware specific to their operation that achieves minimum TCO and environmental impact. Trusted by Titans in the industry, Dynamon has customers such as Wincanton (UK’s largest logistics company), Ikea, Sainsbury’s (UK’s 2nd largest retailer), ASDA (UK’s 3rd largest retailer – part of Walmart), Royal Mail, NHS, BP, Continental, Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear. Recently, Dynamon gained recognition in the Southern Enterprise Awards 2022 for its innovative and pioneering data analytics software tools and was bestowed with the prestigious title of “Best Sustainable Tech Company 2022”. The future for the Southampton-based company is looking very bright indeed as it strives onwards and upwards towards providing sustainable fleet solutions in the commercial transport industry moving forward.
