UK Enterprise Awards 2022

137 | UK Enterprise Awards 2022 Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Point to Point Services Limited was a small company providing events with first-aid and medical support. As events began to get cancelled there were concerns about the company’s future. But these were to be short-lived. Point to Point was quickly recruited to support its local NHS hospital. Since then, the services it offers have continued to expand. We speak to Managing Director, Simon Jenkins, to find out more. Leominster-based company, Point to Point Services Limited, is a leading independent ambulance service that operates throughout the West Midlands and Wales. Having started out providing medical cover at events and sporting fixtures, today Point to Point also offer a range of other services. Point to Point works with individuals, private healthcare providers and the NHS to deliver non-emergency patient transport, high dependency transfers and 999 services. Committed to delivering the best possible service at all times, the company defines its values as empathy, accountability, teamwork, dynamism and passion. Simon explains, “The quality of our team makes us stand head and shoulders above the competition. Everyone always does their best, from the teams that prepare and stock our ambulances to the ambulance crews themselves and the senior management team. Our patients are at the heart of every decision we make.” Point to Point wants every member of the team to be able to develop professionally and progress in their careers. As such the company has invested in industry-leading induction and training processes. Simon says, “We’re proud of our recruitment process, it’s intentionally tough. This means only the best people get through it. And it doesn’t stop there. We expect each team member to continue their development. Everyone is assigned a mentor who works with them to develop their skills and help them grow into their roles.” As the country began to return to work at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, Point to Point worked in partnership with the local Job Centre Plus. Simon tells us, “We offered kick-start placements to young people at risk of long-term employment. I’m pleased to say that everyone completed the placement and they’ve gone on to receive further on-the-job training and development to stay with us.” 25% of the current Point to Point workforce is studying for an apprenticeship, and every member of staff earns above the ‘real living wage’. Committed to making a positive contribution to the local community, Point to Point Apr22323 Best Independent Ambulance Service - West Midlands employs as many local residents as possible. Being a socially conscious enterprise, the company also donates around £5000 each year to support local communities in Herefordshire. As the NHS continues to buckle under unprecedented demand for its services, the need for Point to Point’s services continues to grow. Simon adds, “It’s everyone’s duty to support the NHS by any means possible. We couldn’t be prouder of how our teams have demonstrated this over the last couple of years. We like to think that we are always here for our staff, we aim to have a positive and open approach to everything we do.” As Point to Point has grown, the company has begun to receive requests for its services from further afield. Simon hopes that this will result in Point to Point being able to expand its reach into new geographical areas soon.
