UK Enterprise Awards 2022

138 | UK Enterprise Awards 2022 “I do sometimes get people saying that they can buy a cheaper membership elsewhere,” Aivaras continues. “However, the analogy that I sometimes use is that when your car breaks down, you go to a mechanic, when you have a toothache, you go to a dentist, so same here, you want to get fitter so you get a team of personal trainers with years of experience, not simply a gym full of dumbbells and a treadmill. It’s all about personal service and the pillars.” Aivaras and the team’s experience has helped them gain some prestigious clients too, such as Exeter City Women’s Football Team, and Devon Golf professionals too. In fact, Oakmont Fitness also works closely with a strength and conditioning coach who trains elite motorsport athletes. Recent trends in the UK include a large rise in the amount of personal trainers becoming qualified, however the downside to this is that the majority of them are getting their qualification online, so when it comes to the practical side of the job, they are not successful. During theCovid-19 pandemic, Oakmont Fitness took the leap to become an OFQUAL-approved centre for delivering fitness courses. “Because of how we deliver the course, our students are more likely to be and feel more confident and competent,” Aivaras explains further. “We are delivering Level 3 personal trainer and Level 3 Nutrition for Health courses. Our courses are delivered in our premisses and in person by one of our coaches and overlooked by our head of fitness George Robinson.” When recruiting for individuals to work within the Oakmont Fitness facility, Aivaras has a very specific set of key skills that he looks for and it is not always necessarily the most qualified candidate that gets the role, as they have often become set in their ways and unwilling to evolve their processes. “It’s always about continuous learning for us,” he states. “Learning, implementing, teaching.” Passionate about helping people on their health and fitness journey, private Exeter-based gym, Oakmont Fitness, provides an exclusive personal training experience. One of the firm’s Co-Founders talks about the company, its ethos, and how the industry is changing shape. Co-Founded by Aivaras Bee and Joe Matthews, the company works mainly with adults from the age of 30 to 60 who want to lose fat, tone up, and regain their confidence, and is dedicated to offering its training services to clients either on a one-to-one or group basis. Aivaras himself has an extensive fitness and training background which includes having represented his country as a professional athlete. His passion and drive to help each and every person who steps through the doors of Oakmont Fitness is clear. “Obesity is increasing in the UK day-by-day,” he begins. “We see ourselves as being those professionals that really can make difference and, in some cases, we are a lifeline for those needing serious medical help.” Whilst the firm’s core values haven’t changed since its inception, they have certainly become clearer and more defined – much like the bodies of its clients over the years – with the fitness and wellbeing programmes being made up of four key pillars. These being: Nutrition – an educational approach to changing eating habits for good. Training – a programme with structure, guidance and motivation where every session is led by a dedicated personal trainer. Community – likeminded people help to create a safe and friendly atmosphere for those who need that ego-free environment. Accountability – every member is assigned an accountability coach who is checking in to make sure clients stay on track throughout their journey. Oakmont Fitness’s main selling point is that it doesn’t mix the demographics of its members, so that no-one feels ‘judged’ or intimidated by younger or fitter individuals, with the average age of members being around 45. Fitness Gym of the Year – Devon Apr22206 New starters will always shadow the older trainers for about a month until they get to know the philosophy and ethos of what Oakmont Fitness has to offer, plus getting to know about members, their injuries and what adaptations need to be made. Recently, the training facility was recognised for its dedication and rewarded with the title of Fitness Gym of the Year – Devon in the UK Enterprise Awards 2022. And now, the future is looking bright for Aivaras and the team as growth is on the horizon. We are definitely looking to become a well-known personal training brand in Devon and, once opportunities and circumstances allow, we intend to expand to other nearby locations to help more people to get fitter and healthier.” Contact Details Contact: Aivaras Bee Company: Oakmont Fitness Web Address: www.oakmontfitness.club
