UK Enterprise Awards 2022

21 | UK Enterprise Awards 2022 short journey. This is a great opportunity to plan trips and experiences so students can be further inspired by the work of industry professionals that have once stood where they are now - in a performing arts school learning how to become a leading performer. “We are incredibly lucky to be based in the heart of Salisbury,” Kiri elaborates. “We see lots of arts festivals pop up, great performances from touring companies and much more. The arts life is once again beginning to thrive in our local area.” Above anything else, Kiri’s passion for the industry shines through. Her commitment is clear and alongside running her business she will soon also be graduating with a Master’s degree in dance pedagogy which will enable her to continue to provide teachers with new teaching tools, as well as to better understand the needs of the students and ensure they are growing and learning efficiently. “A lot of what is instilled into the staff comes directly from me,” she says. “We are a small business with only 11 members of staff; however, they sense my passion for teaching. We have regular team meetings to discuss how we as a team can better the business as a whole and for the students. We pride ourselves of providing a family feel where we can discuss issues and suggest ideas of progressions.” CPD is regularly encouraged for all staff and teaching members to ensure they are up to date, fresh and revitalised when they come to work. “We want them to be bursting with ideas, knowledge and new tools to push and develop themselves and the students.” Recently, Kiri and her team were recognised in the UK Enterprise Awards 2022 and given the title of Youth Theatre Training Provider of the Year – Southern England. Bursting with pride and a determination to succeed, Kiri now has ambitious plans for the future. “We aim to grow by seeing many more students become involved, we hope to have more permanent classes within our local schools to dissolve the barrier of travel for parents and students, we aim to increase our class timetable by offer new styles, age ranges and qualification opportunities.” Contact Details Contact: Kiri Golding Company: Starcast Performing Art Schools Web Address: www.starcastperformingarts.co.uk Starcast Performing Arts Schools provides exceptional part time theatre training for 4-18-year-olds in singing, dancing, and acting in Salisbury, Amesbury, Fordingbridge, and Romsey. Freelance dance artist and facilitator, Kiri Golding, tells us more about her business – and the industry in general. Starcast was founded in 2010 in Salisbury by professional and international performer and dancer Samantha Holloway, who wanted to encourage, develop and nurture local children’s love for the performing arts in a school where no-one is judged and where everyone feels valued. The school grew from holding one session a week to having six bustling and busy schools in Salisbury, Amesbury, Fordingbridge, and Romsey – with nearly 300 students attending weekly classes. Today, Starcast is a friendly, welcoming performing arts school which is suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced skills. “Through our classes, teaching techniques, and providing performance opportunities our students learn to be confident, articulate, and expressive – skills for life,” Kiri Golding begins. “We pride ourselves in offering inspirational, creative, fun classes in a professional and disciplined environment.” Always putting students first, Starcast has created a safe learning environment for everyone who attends. A place where there are no preconceptions or judgments, and where each learner is valued for who they are. “We encourage individuality and the chance to express emotions, feeling, thoughts and ideas through the power of performing arts. Inclusivity is at the very core of what we do,” Kiri shares. In the sessions, Kiri and her colleagues cover many aspects of the three main theatre arts disciplines from West End musical theatre through to street dance, commercial dance, hip hop, chart songs and acting for camera. Many students have also gained professional work such as parts in the West End of tour of “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” and “Evita” and TV adverts, thanks to Starcast’s partnership with an established talent agency. The school is also fortunate to located in an area where the West End theatres are just a Youth Theatre Training Provider of the Year – Southern England May22226 P E R F O R M I N G A R T S S C H O O L S
