The Kent-based company brokered over 3,700 financial products in its first full year of trading up to November 2021. Speaking to the Managing Director, Steve Anderson, we delve into what makes Absolute Military stand out from its competition. In the niche market of military insurance, Absolute Military supports military families to help them build financial resilience. The company offers a range of insurance products including cover for military kit, serious illness cover and life insurance. Additional services that Absolute Military offers its clients are bespoke savings products, and providing access to wills and estate planning and financial planning. Steve Anderson tells us, “Ours is the first omnichannel business in the military market. Our customers can deal with us face to face, through our telesales team, via our website, or by using our app. We’ve invested in technology that means we can offer an enhanced service from a much lower cost base than our key competitors.” Over half of the team at Absolute Military have more than a passing connection to the military. Veterans, reservists and partners of military personnel bring their unique expertise to the day-to-day operations at the company. “We’ve pulled together some of the most experienced advisers in the field. We have local consultants based across the country too. This ensures that our clients don’t only buy a product, they get ongoing support and personalised service,” Steve shares. Steve explains, “We live our values daily. Every member of the team who advises a customer has at least 5 years’ experience in financial services. Our team have a strong history of making a difference and supporting our clients every step of the way.” In May this year, Absolute Military appointed Johnny Timpson, OBE, as non-executive Chairman of the Board. With over 40 years’ experience in insurance and banking, Johnny joined the company to help improve access to products and services for military personnel. A former ambassador for disability and access to the government, he also brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of inclusion and diversity. When the Queen’s speech outlined the need to support consumers by protecting access to cash, Johnny took action. Having secured funding to support the military community with a pilot project for open banking, Absolute Military aims to start its pilot project later in the year in two key military locations. “There’s often rhetoric about improving lives and enhancing access across the community. Our investors are giving us the ability to move beyond rhetoric into action. We’re investing in a way that will make a difference to our community,” Steve explains. He and the team are aware of the difference that Absolute Military makes – and show no sign of stopping at all. Entering the market in November 2020, Absolute Military aimed to challenge the market with its key services and products. With a client base of military personnel typically aged between 20 and 36 years old, the company provides uncomplicated products to address specific needs.
