Established by Charlie Page in 1975, he handed over the running of the company to his daughter, Patricia Page, in 2017. With their vast level of experience and their caring and responsive customer service, North West Pest Control Ltd is second to none in the industry. We speak to Patricia to find out more. Discovering pests in and around your home or workplace can be anything from annoying to downright scary. North West Pest Control provide a full range of Integrated Pest Management services for domestic and business clients. The company deals with the vast majority of infestation problems including wasps, rats, mice, bedbugs, cockroaches and also offer Bird Deterrent Programmes. Wherever possible North West Pest Control incorporates a non-toxic, environmentally-friendly approach into its Pest Management Services. By the time Patricia took over the management of North West Pest Control, she’d already been with the company for around 24 years. But getting her foot in the door at the start wasn’t that easy. She explains, “I’d always wanted to work with my dad, but him being an old-fashioned gentleman didn’t think it was a suitable career for a young girl.” She persevered and found herself perfectly exceeding his expectations. Since the company started, the Pest Control industry has seen enormous changes. Charlie admits he wouldn’t like to be starting out in the business now. Over the last 10 years, North West Pest Control has increased its portfolio of clients. The company provides reactive and proactive Pest Management Services to Housing Associations, Property Management and Facilities Management Companies throughout N.Ireland! “We’re proud of the positive outcomes we provide for our customers. Whenever they find themselves in a stressful situation whether it’s because of rats or mice in a domestic property creating havoc, bedbugs in a hotel or cockroaches in a takeaway we’ll be there to help. A big part of the job is reassuring the customers that we will be able to sort it out. No job is ever too small. Every day is a school day in this profession, but we love what we do. It doesn’t really feel like work.” Patricia attributes the Company’s success to her wonderful team: Technical Manager, Michael, Senior Technician Conor, Junior Technician Glenn and Office Manager Martin. “It’s all down to them that we have won this wonderful award for Customer Service. I have no idea who nominated us, it was anonymous, but whoever it was, thank you!” Patricia enthuses. The COVID-19 pandemic was a particularly difficult time for North West Pest Control. With many businesses closing their doors, Patricia was forced to furlough some of the company’s workforce for a short time. And then sadly, Charlie and Patricia lost Eileen, Patricia’s mum, to the disease. “Mum passed away in January 2021 after a very short battle with the cursed virus. I’m grateful to still have my Dad around to help with the business. If I ever need help or advice on a job, he’s the first person I ask. His knowledge is phenomenal.” Charlie, known as “The Ratman” in the industry, has passed on his legacy to Patricia who now proudly boasts the nickname “The Ratwoman” . Patricia is also the first female Pest Technician in the UK & Ireland to achieve the Level 3 RSPH Award which is the Gold Standard in Pest Management and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health in 2021 which is testament to her longevity and academic success within her chosen Profession. Her reputation as an authority in the Profession has seen Patricia recently interviewed on “The Conversation “for the BBC World Service and she tells us to ‘watch this space’ for a BBC TV documentary, ‘The Ratwoman’ later this year.
