97 | UK Enterprise Awards 2022 [https://edpl.lexxion.eu/article/EDPL/2022/1/8]. This is an example of how we remain not only upto-date but ahead of thinking in the industry. This trickles down as pure benefit for our clients too.” As a virtually based business, the COVID-19 pandemic had minimal impact on JSIG’s operations. But with regards to data protection, JSIG experienced two major changes. The first was the large amount of health data that needed processing on a daily basis by both private and public bodies. The second was the increased number of employees expected to use their own devices and networks to work from home. James explains, “During this period we saw exponential increases in privacy risks. COVID-19 obliged companies to rely more on technology, processing even more information in electronic format. This was advantageous for us. We were incredibly well placed to support our clients with these challenges.” With a sudden increased focus on data protection requirements, JSIG’s unique blend of technology and expertise enabled the company to guide its clients through this uncharted territory. It was during this time that JSIG was able to expand its service delivery overseas. This has only been In September 2020, three small data companies merged to form JS Information Governance Ltd. The aim – to help businesses of all sizes manage their information and meet data protection obligations. With decades of experience between them, the team enables clients to overcome today’s most complex compliance challenges. Managing Director James Munton tells us more. JS Information Governance Ltd (JSIG) was born out of a vision to provide businesses with a complete solution to their information management needs. Offering a full suite of data protection and information security consultancy services, JSIG provides everything from initial gap analysis work through to full implementation of compliance programmes. Reducing the resource burden normally associated with managing compliance projects, JSIG helps clients to quickly operationalise their data privacy programmes. The hybrid consultancy offers human expertise powered by its own state-ofthe-art technology. With experienced consultants, advanced compliance software and document scanning services all in-house, the JSIG approach is appealing in its simplicity. James tells us this about JSIG’s client base, “Whilst we serve clients across a broad range of industries, we’ve developed particularly strong credentials across education, food manufacturing and engineering. More recently we’ve taken on banking clients as a result of our remote expansion into Gibraltar.” This hybrid approach to work ensures that ‘innovation is at the core’. “We wanted to carve a path between traditional consultancy and standalone software solutions. Only working with a consultant leaves the client no easy way to project manage a myriad of tasks themselves. Whilst investing in the software alone means no readily available support. Our robust and agile approach offers our clients the very best of both worlds,” James enthuses. Importantly, JSIG uses its own technology too. This means the company is able to scale products and services to meet each client’s needs. As well as its day-to-day business, JSIG works to provide thought leadership to this ever-changing industry. James tells us, “We were recently published in the European Data Protection Law Review (EDPL) with a paper titled: ‘Data Protection - A firewall between employers and trade unions?’ Best Outsourced Data Protection Service 2022 May22360 possible with the work of its experienced and committed team. With regards to the drive and attitude of the team, James shares, “We work hard to foster an environment of innovation and empowerment. Being a virtual business, having a positive internal culture is not only nice to have, but also essential to the success of the business. Directors and employees at all levels work in unison to identify solutions to current challenges and understand what demands on the company and our clients may look like in the future.” The future is looking incredibly promising for JSIG as James tells us, “We’re planning ambitious roadmaps for the development of our technology to deliver even more for our clients. Through key strategic partnerships we’re continuing to push into new territories in Europe too.” We look forward to seeing what comes next.
