UK Enterprise Awards 2023

104 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Apr23280 Best Contemporary Art Gallery 2023 - South West As an independent contemporary art venue in the South West – and one of the best known in the region – Artwave West holds a special place in the greater artistic sphere. On the back of its well-deserved recognition in the programme, we spoke with Gallery Artist and co-Founder Donna Goold to find out more about how the gallery has firmly established itself in the space. Established in 2009. Artwave West has become a cornerstone of the greater industry through a thoroughly modern and fresh approach that thrives in its minimalist choices. Despite its small size, in relation to long-standing industry paragons, the gallery has endeavoured to create an environment that echoes the largest of museums, utilising smart design decisions to make sure the art can breathe, and flourish in turn. It should be no surprise, then, that Artwave West has since become a go-to destination for art-lovers and appreciators to acquire new pieces for their burgeoning collections. “Visitors frequently describe the gallery as uplifting and inspiring and enjoy the opportunity to view the large collection of works held in stock. Our vision also included bringing to an audience, large, Contemporary Artworks which previously would be difficult to see outside a major city. By sticking rigidly to the original model of showcasing Contemporary artworks priced between £300 - £5000, along with an outstanding record of customer service, we have acquired dedicated repeat customers that have built their own stunning collections of art. “The gallery now holds around ten exhibitions per year as well as keeping artworks in stock at all times by its sixteen permanently represented artists, the majority of which have remained loyally with the gallery since it opened,” Donna explains in more detail. Over the last couple of years, Donna and fellow Co-Founder Martin Goold have endeavoured to pursue more sustainable measures to bolster their already impressive operations and mission. As a result, from 2021, the gallery now utilises an electric van to make deliveries, with more developments in the works. “This acquisition also facilitated an increase in our popular service of complimentary home art consultations. This is where the customer can view artworks in their home with our help and guidance. Whether procuring the right artwork for a specific space, or simply offering invaluable advice on colour and scale, this personal service has become an integral part of the business.” All in all, Artwave West has thrived through the choices made by Donna and Martin, enjoying the freedom that its independent status offers. Indeed, from the outset, the duo’s passion for their work is undoubtable. In this, the future of the gallery is secured, with both loyal clients and esteemed resident artists working to create an environment that is very special indeed. “The independent nature of the gallery and its spirited approach to the selection of artists ensures a distinctive presentation not seen anywhere else. Exhibitions with several artists bring together fascinating combinations of artworks while solo shows present an artist in more depth. I ensure that a close working relationship with our artists is maintained so clients can be assured of well-chosen portfolios and thorough knowledge of work. A number of regular Artwave West artists are frequently selected for prestigious competitive exhibitions at venues such as The Mall Galleries and The Royal Academy, often winning well- regarded awards, many have had works shown in national museums and have held exhibitions in cultural capitals such as London, New York and Venice.” Company Name: Artwave West Contact Name: Donna Goold, Gallery Artist Address: Artwave West, Morcombelake, Dorset, DT6 6DY Web Address: https://www.artwavewest.com/ Contact Email: info@artwavewest.com Telephone Number: 07792279886
