113 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 May23376 Best Ear Wax Removal Experts 2023 Clearwax Ltd is a specialist in clinical ear care. The company, founded in 2015 by consultant audiologist Neel Raithatha, is on a mission to enhance and elevate ear care standards around the world. Experts in ear wax removal, Clearwax offers a range of services to clients around the UK via its network of qualified and experienced ear care professionals. We speak with Neel to find out more. If you’ve never experienced issues with a ‘blocked’ ear, chances are you’ve not thought much about the buildup of wax in your ears. For most of us, ear wax is functional and efficient. The oily substance is a natural trap for dead cells from inside the ear canal and foreign bodies such as dust and dirt. Wax moves out of the ear canal in a conveyorbelt-type motion to clear the ear of obstruction. But if there’s some sort of malfunction in the conveyor-belt process, wax, dust, dirt, and dead cells build up in the ear canal. Over time, the old wax forms an obstacle that can cause a whole range of undesirable symptoms. In the UK alone, it’s estimated that over 2 million people experience ear wax buildup severe enough to cause ‘blocked ear’, a condition known as cerumenosis. With most primary care professionals no longer providing ear care services, many patients are left not knowing how to treat the problem. Based in Oadby, Leicestershire, Clearwax was founded to provide essential ear care services to the UK market. Neel says, “At Clearwax we develop and bring to market innovative clinical ear care solutions and treatments. We also train ear professionals to enable them to offer clinical ear care to their clients and customers. We are always developing and evolving the business to encompass the latest technology and current best practice. We’re viewed within our field as an advocate of the highest levels of clinical ear care. This helps to set us apart from the rest. ” But Neel has noticed some unsettling trends in the industry. He explains, “Clinical ear care, like treatments such as botox and fillers, is not fully regulated in the UK. As such, we’ve seen a surge in non-clinicians, or clinicians with no previous or relevant ear expertise, offering clinical ear care services to the public. And this is despite professional training being available. Clinical ear care can be fraught with danger for the client if performed by somebody without the relevant ear knowledge, experience, and skills. Clearwax has seen a rise in the number of clients coming to us for secondary treatments. Often the client has experienced complications following poorly performed initial treatment.” All Clearwax staff are trained and experienced. As such, Neel encourages each team member to be independent and use their own creativity. Neel continues, “It’s important for my team to feel motivated and at ease in their work environment. For me, these are the key drivers for productivity, innovation and growth. We never let our standards drop and set the very highest expectations. When hiring new staff, it’s vital they have enthusiasm and desire to develop and grow.” The company will be launching its latest device, the WAXscope, very soon. The innovative device is designed to help ear care professionals perform clinical ear care procedures. Clearwax is also looking to launch a new range of clinical ear care instrumentation by the end of the year. For further details, please visit the company’s website.
