We find out more as we speak to Founder and CEO, Dimple Khagram in the wake of the firm being recognised in the UK Enterprise Awards 2023. Purple Beard Training is an innovative, edtech company on a mission to disrupt the tech sector with challenging engaging and highly selective learning experiences. Their programs are developed and led by industry experts with the goal of creating employable tech talent and bridging the diversity gap in the field. With a vision to become a leading global tech education provider, Purple Beard Training focuses on innovation, affordability, and accessibility to shape the tech talent of tomorrow. Currently, Purple Beard offers the services of skills bootcamps, bootcamps, digital apprenticeships, and B2B talent recruitment. “At Purple Beard, we enable and empower individuals to achieve real and lasting advancements in their careers or businesses,” explains Dimple Khagram, the firm’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer as she tells us more about its USPs. “With a focus on providing critical training, resources, and support, we ensure that our clients are fully equipped to excel in the fastpaced and dynamic tech industry.” The tech industry is constantly evolving, and training trends are adapting to keep up with the latest advancements, and Dimple takes us through some of the key trends she has seen emerging in the tech industry in relation to training. “With the rise of remote work, online learning platforms and tools have become increasingly popular for tech industry training,” she elaborates. “E-learning platforms such as Coursera, Udacity, and LinkedIn Learning offer a wide range of courses and training programmes to help professionals upskill and reskill.” Another trend is that of microlearning – the practice of delivering content in small, focused learning units. This approach has gained traction in the tech industry because it allows learners to quickly absorb new information, making it easier to fit training into busy schedules. Then, driven by the younger generation, there’s gamification which involves incorporating game elements into learning experiences to increase engagement and motivation. This approach has been adopted by many tech training programmes, as it makes learning more enjoyable and helps with information retention. Another important trend is VR and AR technologies which have started to make their way into tech training, providing immersive and interactive learning experiences. These technologies can be especially useful in training for jobs that involve spatial or visual tasks, such as hardware design or software development. “The impact is that we are amid these changes as a training provider,” continues Dimple. “Therefore, we need to ensure that our programmes are fit for purpose and supporting individuals and organisations to reskill or upskill in order to meet the changes and challenges in technology.” As a start-up, Purple Beard has evolved massively over the past two years and has far more structure than it did when operations started back in 2021. Dimple tells us that, while working in a start-up is not for everyone as there are lots of changes that happen, her team is very resilient in the face of some of the changes that the organisation has experienced through its early growth phase. “Being part of Purple Beard means that continuous learning is at the heart of what we do,” she states passionately. “It is key to provide individuals with the right type of space to grow supported by nurturing their development. The aim for us is to have teams that are empowered to make decisions and can take accountability for those decisions.” Recently, in recognition of Dimple and the team’s hard work and dedication, Purple Beard Training gained well-deserved recognition within the UK Enterprise Awards, being named Most Disruptive EdTech Company 2023. Obviously delighted with this prestigious accolade, Dimple has plans for this year, which include the intention to launch a selffunded bootcamps by offering Amazon certifications such as cloud computing; continue to grow her work in the public sector via the Digital Accessibility Specialist apprenticeship programme; continue to develop programmes in collaboration with employers that develop the attitudes and skills for the future; and launch the firm’s programmes globally.
