16 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Most Outstanding Dental Practice 2023 - Worcestershire Tenbury Dental Centre has become well known across Worcestershire for delivering a caring, modern, family practice. The question is how? Well, we spoke to Director Vishal Patel to find out why the clinic has been overwhelmingly recognised as the ‘Most Outstanding Dental Practice’ in the region. Established in the 1970s, Tenbury Dental Care has become a stalwart of the community through a dedication to best in class practices that have been honed over the last 50 years. While it is easy to overlook the importance of such establishments, the time should be taken to emphasise the way that the access to exceptional dental care has shaped the clinic’s local community. Tenbury Dental Care has certainly made its mark on the people it treats and remained committed to delivering next generation services, as Vishal takes a moment to explain in more detail. “Our aim is for our patients to maintain good dental health so that they may keep their teeth for life with as few fillings as possible in strong healthy gums. We have expanded our services to provide more advanced treatments including advanced teeth whitening, smile makeovers with crowns veneers and specialised oral surgery procedures including dental implants (simple to complex).” This is important, as it would be all too easy for the clinic to stagnate on the back of its age, or simply choose to settle behind larger industry trends. It’s clear from the outset that this is certainly not the case here, with all efforts made to remain cutting edge. “We use the latest digital technology including digital X-rays and intra-oral scanners which allow us to capture and record patients’ dental records. Rather than using traditional analog impression, intra-oral scanners have enabled a wand like device that assists with achieving accurate records and sending them electronically to any lab in the country. We are passionate about dentistry, and are also investing into a 3D CT scanner (CBCT) which will allow us to take accurate Xray images of the jaw in slices so that we can identify vital structures like nerves and sinuses etc prior to placing implants. Being in a rural location, we are currently having to refer these patients for these scans, this will all change in the near future after the renovations.” “Our main mission is to provide exceptional quality of dental treatment which is affordable for the local community whilst at the same time giving patients the best experience.” It’s also important to recognise that the future of dentistry very much lies in smaller, more localised, independent clinics, rather than the larger mainstays – as is the case across a plethora of industries. These smaller clinics are expert-led, and driven to change the communities they settle in. “The future of dentistry is about small business individuals that own and run a practice to provide patient care rather than big corporates that may view patients as numbers and targets,” Vishal adds. With this in mind, Tenbury Dental Care endeavours to be led absolutely by its core values, which – as you can imagine with everything that has been said so far – are innately patient-centric. This will serve the clinic well moving forwards, as dentistry continues to shift and adapt to changing trends and patient expectations. “Currently there has been a big shift of patients wanting more cosmetic treatment than ever before. This includes anything from teeth whitening, smile makeovers to clear aligner orthodontics such as invisalign. Patients are much more aware via online research of the range of treatments available. This has increased the responsibility of the dental profession to cater and meet these demands but in the most ethical way.” Naturally, the team play a key role in all of this, as Vishal moves on to discuss. “Regarding our team, we look for genuine caring professionals that can prove a level of competency and are motivated together as a team. We ensure we have experts in different facets of the business. We have also trained and developed multiple trainee dental nurses through
