With the firm earning incredible success in the UK Enterprise Awards 2023, we thought it time to dig a little deeper and talk to Billie about some of the secrets of her success. Teaching new skills is no easy task, but the team at Billie’s Fins Swim School have made it their mission to push forward into bold new territory as far as possible. With small class sizes, two teachers to a class and a practical in-water approach, it’s little wonder that they’ve gained such a strong reputation in Cambridgeshire. For little kids, swimming can be a chore in the wrong hands. Who would want to do lap after lap, with no variation? “We make sure our lessons are fun, varied and fast paced,” Billie says with a smile. “We understand that each individual leans in different ways and we ensure that we work with children and adults in a way that works best for them. Each individuals journey is important to us.” To reach every member of society, the team have been committed to pushing to bold new territory. Billie’s Fins Swim School started out renting pools, but not has its own purpose-built facility. “We are constantly reviewing and improving our lessons to offer the best service possible,” Billie explains. “We will soon be installing a pool hoist to cater for those with limited mobility and offering extra classes for SEN children and adults along with rehabilitation. Our team are all passionate about what we do and we only hire the best people to add to our team.” Such care and attention to detail is why so many people trust Billie and her team to educate their children in how to swim in a way that is safe and enjoyable. Over the last few years, the team have seen a massive increase in individuals with SEN, and as such have had to adjust and build programs that cater more for their needs. “Learning through play,” Billie adds, which means that they can grow as individuals outside of the normal educational environments. The team at Billie’s Fins Swim School is incredibly important, and at the heart of what is on offer are individuals who understand the essential values of safety and play in equal measure. “We need all team members to be on the same page,” says Billie. “As such, we offer on-site and off-site training, staff appraisals and team bonding sessions.” The success of Billie’s Fins Swim School means that they are looking into new business development ideas, including franchising and a third facility. Growth seems a likely option with demand continuing to grow.
