Northern Enterprise Awards 2022 | 85 Nov22152 Best Upscale Bar & Restaurant - Liverpool Waterfront Serving hearty food, a plethora of spirits and drinks, plus guaranteeing you a warm and friendly welcome, The Smugglers Cove is a waterside venue that is not to be missed! We find out more about the bar and restaurant as it celebrates its success within the Northern Enterprise Awards 2022. Steeped in history, the Royal Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in Liverpool. Designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, it opened in 1846 and was the first structure in Britain to be built from cast iron, brick, and stone – with no structural wood! Today the Dock flourishes as a major tourist attraction in the city. Adorned with trendy bars and clubs, it is the most visited multi-use attraction in the UK outside of London, with approximately four million visitors each year. The complex also comprises the largest single collection of Grade I listed buildings anywhere in the UK. Based at Britannia Pavilion on the Dock lies a hidden gem of a tavern, housing an extensive treasure trove of rum, gin, tequila, whisky, bottled beers, real ales, and champagne! The Smugglers Cove was born out of a thirst for adventure, excitement, and intrigue, and provides the perfect hideaway for those seeking similar! As part of the New World Trading Company, which includes other brands such as the Florist, the Clubhouse, and the Botanist, The Smugglers Cove offers upmarket pub food along with a huge selection of 151 different rums, plundered from all four corners of the world! From Caribbean concoctions to exotic brews, visitors can be sure that a voyage to the cove will result in uncommonly good spirits. Run by General Manager, Paul Harrison, The Smugglers Cove’s company values centre around ambition, expertise, exploration, individuality, integrity, and happiness, and there is a keen focus on staff expertise and training, meaning that both the servers and bartenders have amazing knowledge about the food and drinks on offer. Whilst there is an extensive cocktail menu and rum collection, the skilled bartenders are able to make any classic drinks, or create a brand new one, to delight and inspire customers. “The internal culture here is to find and develop like-minded individuals to create experts that deliver unrivalled customer experiences,” says Paul, speaking of what character traits he wants in potential new team members. “We look for drive, resilience, and ambition at The Smugglers Cove.” Liverpool sees a lot of tourism, and The Smugglers Cove is well placed to benefit from this in the summer months. However, the Covid-19 pandemic hit the hospitality industry hard and with the cost of living crisis now in full swing, Paul tells us that there are a few more challenges ahead. “Weekends remain strong, but ticket spend is dropping now as consumers look to save money,” he states. “There’s also been disruption to public transport due to strikes and this too has had a significant impact due to the area’s heavy reliance on tourism.” Nevertheless, Paul and the team are determined to sail The Smugglers Cove through stormy waters! In fact, for its commitment to customers and dedication to staff training, The Smugglers Cove was recently recognised in the SME News Northern Enterprise Awards 2022 and crowned with the prestigious title of Best Upscale Bar & Restaurant - Liverpool Waterfront. Now, with the festive season well underway, The Smugglers Cove has lots of treats in store for its customers. The dazzlingly decorated, picturesque venue offers an atmosphere quite unlike any other. Coupled with live music, festive tipples, and a delicious menu that brings Christmas cheer, Paul hopes to keep the party going The Smugglers way! “We’re looking at a strong Christmas trading period,” he enthuses. “The company as a whole continues to expand with multiple new openings each year, so there is lots to get excited about on the horizon!” Contact: Paul Harrison Company: The Smugglers Cove Web Address: https://thesmugglerscove.uk.com/
