We speak to Director and Lead Health & Safety Consultant, Tim Commins, to find out more about the firm, its ethos, and what it is that makes it stand out from the rest. JTA Safety Limited is an independent health and safety consultancy based in Essex that works UK-wide, and specialises in construction health and safety, including building, refurbishment, fit-out, civil engineering, and rail sectors. The firm’s clients include other partner consultancies and project management companies, such as Apex, Gleaves and EHS, as well as SMEs, construction, and civil engineering firms and general building and fit-out companies. To date, JTA has completed, or is currently involved in, projects for Amazon, Wilmott Dixon, Arla, and Queen Mary University London. This is in addition to its smaller and more private clients working on various projects across the south and southeast. “Unlike other consultancies which are sales led or provide a bogstandard generic product, we tailor our services and solutions to each client to best suit their projects and company activities,” explains Director and Lead Health & Safety Consultant, Tim Commins. “Similar sized construction companies working in the civil engineering sector, let’s say, can have massively different requirements regarding health and safety, and the CDM regulations depending on their work activities. We assess each organisation’s specific needs and requirements and implement bespoke solutions to best serve and provide the best possible service to each and every client.” JTA’s dedicated team has extensive experience and specialities that the firm can call upon to ensure it provides the best possible solutions for even the most specialist contractors. It can also offer full project management services, health & safety management, and principal designer services on large projects. “We pride ourselves on our expertise and skillset,” elaborates Tim. “Understanding not only our clients’ requirements but the day-today issues that will arise during the course of their projects is key to delivering our great service.” The company also offers online training courses which Tim assures us are the best out there. Several are IOSH approved, with other approvals including the IIRSM, IATP, CPD, IFE, and ILM. There are also courses that lead to laser and ETA qualifications. The courses are tutor led with interactive question sessions at the end of each module. Once the candidate has completed a module, they progress to the next until all modules have been finished. The courses are fully interactive and can be accomplished in one session, or over the span of a few days or even weeks. Tim ensures that all of his staff are also fully qualified and trained, and don’t simply have the prerequisite qualifications, but also extensive knowledge and experience in their field. “That is the key,” he enthuses. “Just having the correct qualifications is not enough for us. Just because you have a driving licence, that does not automatically mean you are a good driver.” It is this dedication and commitment to ensuring that staff are able to fulfil the customer’s needs and requirements that makes JTA stand out from its competitors.
