The successful company, which started by offering its services in the Brighton area, is branching out into East Sussex and beyond. We speak to Taxi 4U Founder, Michael Safeen, to find out more. In 2017, Michael Safeen was working part-time as a taxi driver. He’d taken the role to supplement his income whilst studying for a master’s degree. But it wasn’t an easy choice. He explains, “Sometimes I felt isolated. I worked long hours and finding customers wasn’t easy. I knew lots of other drivers and they had the same issues. I started to think about how technology could help find customers and ensure vehicles were in the right place at the right time.” After extensive research, Michael started his mobile-based service, Taxi 4U focusing on the Brighton area. The Taxi 4U app is available on Android and iOS devices. It’s a quick and easy way for users to book taxis and private hire cars. Advised of the fee at the point of booking, customers have the option to pay by cash or card in the taxi. Michael says, “Our customers don’t need to go anywhere or wait for someone to answer the phone to find their taxi. It’s dispatched to their desired pickup point and they can track its progress by using Taxi 4U GPS.” All Taxi 4U drivers are DBS checked and the company provides taxis from Brighton to all UK airports. The company’s large taxi fleet now covers Brighton, Hove, and Lewes. The last couple of years has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Taxi 4U. Lockdowns and restricted travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic saw an initial decrease in the demand for taxis. The risks later associated with social gatherings and the trend of working from home further added to the decline. But, as restrictions eased and tourists began to return to Brighton, the company started to see growth once more. Michael tells us why he enjoys being based in Brighton, “Brighton is famous for its wonderful attractions. It’s a city that never sleeps and so there’s a lot of demand for taxis. Our recent data suggests that many of our bookings come from tourists.
