UK Enterprise Awards 2023

94 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Apr23412 Renewable Energy Consultants of the Year 2023 – Wales Now in its seventh year since its establishment, PGC has endeavoured to define best practices in an industry that continues to grow in both size and importance. With a team of five engineers with over half a century of collective experience, PGC, operating from South Wales serves its local and national regions, alongside projects across the European and African continents. To begin, Ben offers more insight into the company’s expertise and sector of operation. “The PGC services cover a wide range of activities from providing technical review of projects - due diligence (typically when a project is bought or sold), to contractor procurement, construction phase management, health and safety advisory and grid connection management. PGC has been responsible for procurement and construction of over 1GW of onshore wind farm projects, 500MW of ground mounted solar, 300MW of battery storage and more recently UK based rooftop solar. “The key to our service offering is the combination of collaborative functional services, project know-how and practical front-line experience. We work closely with our Clients to understand the critical issues they face. We listen, gather and analyse the most relevant information, from which we develop innovative strategies to create real value,” Ben explains. As PGC works firmly and singularly within the renewable energy sector, it has cultivated a strong presence through an ability to deliver exceptional results through honed expertise and experience. “This allows us to deliver a specialist focus not found elsewhere and to address problems where we have genuine industry expertise,” Ben adds. Serving a varied client base, PGC has thrived through a dedication to three core pillars within its operation – cost efficiency, quality control, and time. These qualities have proven to be a potent combination despite considerable changes on the larger renewable landscape, as Ben moves on to discuss. “Renewable energy is a very dynamic industry, mainly due to advancing technology and new forms of energy production. This can be demonstrated in the 20-year career to date where wind turbines have increased in size and power by more than 5 times. With increased size has come better efficiencies and additional renewable power added to the grid from a single turbine location. It is also very evident in the solar technology where a typical photovoltaic panel has retained the same dimensions but on average has more than doubled its power output. These trends are set to continue. “Given the economy and the cost of energy in general we are finding there to be considerable trend for large power demand users to become generators of their own power. Typically a large factory or commercial premises is seeking advice on power generation, the solution tends to be a solar project on the roof but there have been instances where turbines can be utilised. The current trend for renewables is battery storage, sometimes these are co-located with another technology, meaning the battery can be charged from a renewable source, store the power and discharge to the grid network following a rise in power demand.” It would be no exaggeration to say that the renewables sector is going to play a crucial role in the UK market moving forwards, considering the immense focus that is being placed upon the industry’s largest operators. “The UK is a strong base for renewable energy, especially with government backing to move the country towards carbon neutral. We see the future demands for power only increasing, meaning the country will have to reinforce the grid network and add further power production facilities to meet this demand.” With all of this in mind, the future of PGC is one of imminent importance and imminent growth – empowered through technology and greater industry investment. “We are planning to roll out a number of software’s in the next year which will assist the team in the management of projects, with some use of AI to make our works even more efficient and streamlined. The company intends to further promote new starters and continue pushing a quality service to our Clients. 2023 is looking to be a busy year for construction projects in the UK and PGC are pleased to play our part in advancing our country towards net zero.” Company: Pure Green Consulting Name: Ben Pollard, Director Email: Ben.Pollard@pure-greenconsulting.com Web Address: www.pure-greenconsulting.com Address: 5 Gold Tops, Newport, NP20 4PG Telephone: 07392114069 Despite its relatively small size, Pure Green Consulting (PGC) has built a robust reputation within its sphere of expertise – that is to say, that ever-growing goliath of renewable energy.
