Estravros

Peter Abdulla founded Estavros Engineering (Estavros) back in 2010, a business venture where Peter has extraordinarily provided services as a contractor / consultant to major oil and gas engineering companies such as KBR, SBM Offshore, Jacobs and Worley where he contributed to serving the world’s giant oil and gas clients including Shell, Chevron, British Petroleum, Saudi Aramco and Reliance . Now, the company has grown significantly and is highly deserving of recognition within the UK Enterprise Awards 2023, so we sat down for a chat with Peter to learn more.

With almost 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, Peter Abdulla couldn’t be more versed for his role of Founder and Managing Director of Estavros Engineering. 13 years ago, Peter established is company and began providing consulting services to businesses within the oil and gas industry – and he hasn’t looked back.

For over 15 years, Peter has been working on some of the world’s largest and most challenging projects, all of which has enhanced his technical experience and his passion for business. He is a qualified engineer with a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, in addition to being a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology in the UK.

By 2019, Peter was taking on bigger scopes of work and outsourcing of engineers to other organisation, bringing a team on board to help him execute projects and provide personnel to clients. He says, “I had the idea in my mind for a long time. I decided to go and exhibit the company at ADIPEC, the biggest oil and gas exhibition in the world which is held annually in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. I spent four days exhibiting the company and made some contracts.”

As a result, things were getting really exciting for Estavros, but then around four months later, the COVID-19 pandemic caused everything to come to a grinding halt. Peter comments, “A lot of the projects we were speaking about just died – none of the projects that we’d been speaking about in 2019 actually came into fruition.”

However, Peter is ambitious and tenacious, and he didn’t let this dampen his spirits. As the world began to return to the “new normal,” Peter still had his sights set on taking his business far. He states, “I still had the idea to network and talk about the company and discuss things with various clients, and then the opportunity came – when I signed an outsourcing contract and some lump sum contracts with one of the world’s largest oil and gas organisations.”

He continues, “As my first major client, they could see value in what I could provide them and that’s when the business (Estavros) started growing.”

Thus, Peter and Estavros Engineering began providing consultancy work and personnel to their major clients, taking on some lump sum contracts for stress analysis and other engineering work. “That was my breakthrough,” Peter tells us. “And I’m still providing them with about four personnel.”

“I’ve dealt with a lot of the major oil and gas companies. Initially, I was providing consultation to big players like Foster Wheeler, Jacobs, and SBM Offshore.”

Now, Estavros has contributed to many major projects around the world. Estavros provides various engineering design scopes within the oil and gas, refining, chemicals and petrochemicals across multiple disciplines including Control & Instrumentation, Process, electrical, mechanical, piping and structural stress analysis and much more  We offer services in leading edge design software including:

Not only did Estavros gain leverage thanks to its contacts, but it also wouldn’t be where it is today without its emphasis on hard work, commitment, transparency, honesty, and integrity. The company does business in a very transparent way; there are no hidden aspects or surprises, with it aiming to be competitive in a very transparent way. Its clients always know exactly the service they’re getting and how much it is going to cost, tailoring it exactly to their specific requirements and striving to provide added value.

At Estavros, safety always comes first, too. It believes in keeping its team and clients safe while delivering the best possible service. Its people are its most valuable asset, whether an employee, customer, business partner, or supplier, ensuring everyone is treated with respect and that they are inevitably satisfied with their experience of Estavros.

Peter goes on to share more about his team: “A lot of companies look for extremely experienced senior guys that have a lot of experience and knowledge behind them, which is valuable; I agree, but sometimes I find that an enthusiastic young person with the right attitude who is willing to learn and make the effort to go and research something can be just as good.

“I look for that trait in people – having the enthusiasm to go and find out something and get the job done, regardless of if they have that particular experience or not. They’re willing to read, willing to ask people, network, and get the information they want and get the job done.”

Now we’ve discovered what makes Estavros Engineering the outstanding and award-winning firm it is, there is undoubtedly a very bright future ahead of it, involving growth and continuing to deliver on its promises with integrity, and in a safe and timely manner. Peter gives us an insight into what that looks like.

“I’m on the lookout to increase the recruitment and outsourcing side of the business to other companies and possibly other industries – that’s my strongest point at the moment – and also to take on further design projects in terms of  engineering design particularly within the oil and gas, refining, chemicals and petrochemicals industries. We can offer multi-discipline engineering design services delivering world class engineering design deliverables using software tools that are at the leading edge of technology in par with the world’s tier one contractors. “

Estavros is more than capable and welcomes the opportunity to take on even more engineering design scopes independently or to execute scope of engineering design as sub-contracts from larger engineering companies.

“It’s also in our plan to expand abroad, where we can be competitive in line with the industry trends where more and more companies are executing work outside of the UK.”
